Sales is the most important skill in leadership. Why? Because sales teaches you how to effectively communicate with not just customers, but people.
I remember having to work at a job where I had to sell new employees on the idea of getting paid $12 per hour in Philadelphia. $12 per hour isn’t getting you crab legs every night. But I was selling my team on a dream. this dream was that commission was the bulk of the cake and hourly was only the icing. And then I sold them on the idea of being able to move up in the company as fast as possible. Success loves speed. Not to mention, every time a new product comes out, you must sell your team on the new product or service. They must believe it as much as you do.
