Cold calling is one of the most painful things to do as a sales rep. Why? Because you are interrupting someone during their precious time ⏰ to persuade them to take some sort of action. But this is the problem. You are trying to close the sale 🤑 on the first contact you have with this person. What you should be trying to do is just introduce them to your world and get them to know, like, and trust you as soon as possible. How can you do this? Stating three easy facts. I coach my AT&T sales representatives to complete this with cold calls with this easy script. “Hey how are you? Is this (whatever their name is)?” They will then answer. “Well, I’m (whatever your name is), your local AT&T representative. I know I’m catching you off guard with this call and you’re probably wondering why I’m calling. You’re probably busy so I promise not to take too much of your time.” After this you go into whatever you are trying to ask them. But I train my reps to not think about getting the sale at first, but to shoot for introducing them into your world 🌎 . This could be with setting an appointment to see what you can do for their phone and their service. And then once they are in front of you, you can do the selling.
