5/30/2024 0 Comments Earl G GravesGraves is from New York and watched his parents work hard. Later in life, he graduated from Morgan State University and served two years in the army. Graves was an administrative assistant while Kennedy was in office until he was assassinated and then he entered the business world.
Graves found the Black Enterprise Magazine in 1970 and been named the ten most outstanding minority businessmen in the country by the president. Black Enterprise Magazine is a resource for black professionals. When doing my research for Earl Graves, I went and looked at the Black Enterprise Magazine. A lot of articles were highlighting black professionals. Not just black on black crime. This highlights al the positivity in our communities. I love this magazine because it built a community of positivity in our community. Stay on my page to continue to gain this positivity.

5/29/2024 0 Comments Judge me on my followersDon’t judge me solely on the work I can put in. This isn’t fair because I know I’m extraordinary. I’m going to put in the work it takes to be great.
But instead, judge me on my followers. Anyone can work hard and accomplish anything. But how many can inspire those around you to do the same? How can you get your followers to be great? For starters, you must do constant training. Having a constant line of communication so your followers will know you’re there for them. I started constant training with my team and their conversion rate increased drastically. They started making more money. And the company started making more money. Constant training is a key part of success. 5/26/2024 0 Comments I hate complainers! If you know me, this is my biggest pet peeve. I hate complainers because I know I had a tough situation growing up and I didn’t complain. What did I do instead? I got to work and grinned out everyday to get where I am now.
But I had this one leader before who always complained. If the weather was bad, he would complain about this. And another leader no my team, chalked it up to a different generation. But I know it is just because of him as a person. The location isn’t very busy. I was there before and only saw about two customers over ten hours. We all know this. But this doesn’t mean you must complain every chance you get. And then the complaining is followed by fake positivity. The fake positivity is ranked high on my scale of pet peeves after complaining. And I know he wants to make money. There’s no way he would’ve still been at the location if he didn’t want to make some sort of money. But the problem is him focusing on the problem rather than the solution. I also had another leader dealing with the problem of a slow location. But the difference was she would focus on getting people in the location by flyer dropping in the neighborhood. She focused on solutions and this is what made her more successful. From what I know, my team loves me and respects me. I have my team barking with energy every call (we are the dawg pound). They bring the energy, but also respects me.
My respect is earned. They have saw me get in the trenches with them and sell so they know I got it. And they do know I will write them up. I just had an employee who had to be written up for being late to open a store. I don’t take pride and love in disciplining my team, but I will do it. One thing I’m heavy on is documentation and using the sandwich method. I will send a recap of each visit. And I will tell you what you’re doing well in, followed by what needs work and then end on words of encouragement. This is how I communicate with every member of the team. And I’m consistent with following up. I follow up via Zoom daily. And when I’m in the store, I’m making sure to give them the utmost attention. This is how I earned the respect of my employees. 5/21/2024 0 Comments Don’t let them fool youCivil Rights movement wasn’t that long ago.
On social media, you’ll see a lot of pictures of Martin Luther King Jr in black and white. The reason this is done, is to make it seem as if it was awhile ago. Most of these photos were taken in color. Today, we still battle with racism in different ways. Personally, I can’t think of any times I have dealt with it to my knowledge. But I do have a friend who dealt with it while going out to eat. A white man was drunk and continued to scream at my friend, “N***er!” But racism isn’t only coming out when they are drunk. It also comes out in different places. Daily, black people are dealing with some sort of racism. The workplace is one way. My photographer was telling me some of the things he goes through being a black man in corporate America. On the basketball court in Boston, a lot of NBA players talk about the racist comments they deal with during the game. And traffic stops are when they get al the racism out. You see videos on these flood the internet. But I can’t even be 100% mad. A lot of racism radiating from them comes from what is taught to them. Their grandparents teach them a way of thinking that is passed down. It’s another generational curse to break. 5/21/2024 0 Comments Keep the money in the family“We are the only people on the planet that blame the white man for 95% of our problems but still spend 97% of our money with them.” - Nuri Muhammed
And this is the reason for my speaking. I want to speak to black college and alum students to inspire them to recognize themselves as leader to become contributing me members in their community. Let’s start spending money in our community. I want us to create resources in our own community. Every other community and race does the same thing. At my job, there are a lot of Indian men that work together. All of them buy liquor from other Indian men. And they even go into business with other Indian men. And I’m not saying it must be every time. But I am saying most of the time to keep it in the community. This is a mindset shift I must complete as well. I’m going to buy my clothes and products from my community. Keep the community together. 5/21/2024 0 Comments Bigger, Better, & FasterI joined the Speaker Lab in March. The Speaker Lab is a community and program teaching speakers how to run a successful speaking business. Doing it on my own was tough, but once I got some guidance, I was good. This is why I joined.
But the thing that stood out the most to me was the community. There’s an online community of people who have been there and done that. I met someone who had a TedX speech. And I met another person who was paid $10k on one speech. This is life changing events and money. And the ones who are further ahead, they have no problem giving feedback. No one is gatekeeping secrets. And they aren’t annoyed when you ask them questions. Hang out with people who are bigger, better, and faster than you. 5/21/2024 0 Comments Rosa ParksShe helped initiate civil rights movements when she refused to give up her seat to a white person. Parks decided she didn’t like something, so she decided to change it are you going to change something in your life today?
Parks doing something as simple as not giving up her seat, led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Before, e had to boycott and fight for some of the most basic human rights. Is it fair? Absolutely not. But we didn’t complain. We just did what was necessary for change. The Montgomery Bus Boycott took an entire year. Sometimes we set a goal and want it to be accomplished immediately. But this isn’t how it works at all. You must go through hardships. Parks went through so much scrutiny over the course of the year. She lost her job and was arrested for breaking the law. But she didn’t give in. In fact, most people believe Parks didn’t get up her seat from being physically tired from work. Which I completely understand. I will get home from work and not be able to do anything like a bear in hibernation. But Parks didn’t get up because mentally she was tired. She was tire of giving in to a failed system. And from one black leader becoming mentally tired, she was able to stop bus segregation. 5/21/2024 0 Comments Stephen Covey quote“It takes humility to seek feedback. It takes wisdom to understand it, analyze it and appropriately act on it.” - Stephen Covey
An ASM at one of my locations, came to me asking what she needs to work on. I went to the store and e talked about the state of the location. While I was there talking about the state of the location, she asked me to run down her personal numbers. The ASM wanted honest feedback about her performance. This was just insane to me. The reason this is so crazy to me is because she is already doing so great in everything else. People who are doing great, always are seeking ways to improve. And this ASM was the perfect example. To be the greatest, you must have some form of humility. This is something even I started to get away from. When I was first a rep, I was a sponge to whatever was taught to me. And I went away from this at some point. But now that I’m getting some guidance from my boss, I’m back to being a sponge. But as the quote says, you can’t just seek feedback. You must instantly apply it. The faster you apply the info, the quicker you can make mistakes. And like they do on “Meet The Robinson,” you should celebrate these mistakes. You learned another way it doesn’t work. This in turn will help you grow exponentially. I have 2 sales reps at one of my locations who started at the same time. One rep is always doing the computer work and studying. The other rep is always working alone and applying the information. The one who is always working alone, is miles ahead of the second rep. Why? Because he has the experience. So if you’re thinking about how to become better, do it and do it now. 5/19/2024 0 Comments Great Leaders take responsibilityMy zone is the largest zone in the company. It’s made up of 10 locations. So when my zone eats, the company eats. However, this can work against me. If my zone is lacking, the company feels it. My boss saw the struggle in my zone and didn’t blame me. He took responsibility by giving me guidance and even helping me with my interviewing process. And it was a trickle effect with me also taking responsibility and creating a plan.
With having 10 locations. I can’t be in 10 different at once. Or can I? I decided my game plan was to virtually trading my zone via zoom. I’m going to spend like 10-15 minutes with each employee each day training them. Yes! You heard me correctly. I will train them every single day until it’s engrained in their mind. I will never forget a reel I saw with Jeremy Miner. He talked about how consistent training makes a company grow the most. I can’t just tell my team what to do, I must show them too. And in turn, this will help conversion and numbers. The perfect example was what just happened at the last location I was at. I showed a store that struggled with our protection method for 6 months how to bundle protection and our home protection. They immediately implemented it. This isn turn helped my numbers and the team loved it. They felt better and I felt better too. It’s not just about telling the team what to do. It’s about showing them how. |
